I have an glass top electric range that is about three years old. My main front burner continues to stay on high heat when I lower the temp to low heat. Is there a way to reset the control or do I have to replace the entire burner?

That type of problem is normally caused by a failed burner switch in the control console. Replacing that component should fix your problem. You can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website. Use the full model number of your range to access the parts list for your exact model.

Be sure that you unplug the range before accessing and replacing that burner switch.

If you need more help, reply with additional details and the full model number of your range.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Hello Bruny. I assume that you have a glass top range as described in the above thread. The burners on that type of range will cycle off occasionally to prevent the glass top above the burner from overheating. They will maintain a relatively even heat source on the lower and medium settings. If you are seeing the burner cycle off at times when using it on the higher settings then this is normal. This will cause some variance in the temperature applied to the pot or pan that is on the burner. This type of burner takes some time to get accustomed to if you are used to cooking on regular coil burners. It will normally not take that much more time to cook items on a glass cook top even though the burners will work differently. If the glass cook top does not fit your needs, then you may want to exchange the range for one that has coil burners. If you can adjust to the characteristics of the radiant burners on the glass cook top and they are working properly, then you probably won't need to return that range. If you think that the burners are not working properly, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

That is correct. To use that burner, just push in and turn the knob to the desired setting. The elements on that model of range will cycle on and off even at the lower temperature settings. A relatively stable heat source will normally be maintained even though the burner cycles in that manner.

You could have a problem with the cooktop elements or the burner switches. A wiring failure could also cause this heating failure. It is rare for more than one component to fail at a time. A voltage supply problem would be evident if the oven is not heating properly. Without a model number, it is difficult to provide specific troubleshooting and repair advice. If you reply to this thread with the model number of the range, we can probably help you with more troubleshooting help for this failure. You may have a simple problem that can be resolved without much repair expense.
